Known for its rich history and delicious cuisine & wine, Burgundy is a must-see region in the east of France.
Burgundy boasts some of France’s most spectacular castles. Chateau d’Ancy le Franc is styled on the Italian Renaissance; Chateau de Cormatin is from the days before the revolution along with many other smaller castles.
The cuisine in Burgundy is first class and is more than enough reason to visit. Boeuf Bourguignon is the region’s signature dish but there are scores of other local specialities. One of France’s most celebrated cheeses, Époisses de Bourgogne is made in the lovely village of Époisses. Napoleon was a particular fan of this cheese, known as the “king of all cheeses”. Locals will insist you wash down the cheese with a glass of vielles vignes (old vine) Chablis.
Don’t forget to visit one of the many beautiful vineyards which are among the world’s best. Also be sure to take a stroll down one of Dijon’s medieval streets with its colourful banners and pretty storefronts.
